– 5th Asia and Pacific Congress –

Organisers:The French research consortium for Asian studies, Groupement d’intérêt scientifique Etudes asiatiques (GIS Asie*) and the Asia and the Pacific Network, Réseau Asie et Pacifique (French national center for scientific research, CNRS).

Objectives: To build awareness about research on Asia and the Pacific, to promote exchange and collaboration between scholars from different research institutes, to encourage cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural panels, and to contribute to the emergence of international projects. Particular attention will be given to proposals from doctoral candidates and young researchers.

-Hyung-Gu Lynn, Atomic Energy Canada Limited/Korea Electric Power Corporation Chair in Korean Research, Institute of Asian Research, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.
-Tak-Wing Ngo, Center for regulation and governance,  International Institute for Asian Studies, Netherlands.
-Emiko Ochiai, Kyoto University Asian Studies Unit, Japan.
-Peter van der Veer, Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity in Göttingen, Germany.
-Jeffrey N. Wasserstrom, University of California (Irvine), United States of America.

 

Call for proposals: for both categories of proposals below, topics are unrestricted (whether published or not).

  • Panels: the Scientific Committee will give priority to panels which include speakers from a variety of cultural areas and/or disciplines.
  • Presentation of a book or a special journal issue: the Scientific Committee wishes to encourage authors of recent publications (individual or collective) or of journal special issues (published or in press), on Asia and the Pacific to present them for discussion with their colleagues.

 

To make proposals:The submission of proposals is made on-line on the congress website, by coordinators and speakers, before 15 March 2015. Information to be provided:

  • Panel: the title and the summary of the panel (300 words), key-words, name of the coordinator, the list of speakers, as well as information on each presentation: the name of the presenter, the title and abstract of the presentation (200 words), and the disciplinary field involved.
  • Presentation of a book or journal special issue: the name of the presenter, the title of the book or special issue and the abstract (300 words), the table of contents and, as applicable, the list of contributors.

Some proposals for individual papers may be considered by the Scientific Committee and included, to the extent possible, within existing panels. These proposals are to be submitted only by e-mail to the address marine.sam@cnrs.fr, using the same format as for the panels.

It is thus possible to submit an individual proposal, with no prior knowledge about the various panels. However, we encourage you to post in the "To form-join a panel: ads" section to inform other participants of your wish to join an existing panel, or on the contrary, to inform them about your call for participants to organise a new panel.

 

CALENDAR

  • October 2014:                                       Opening of submission stage
  • Friday, 27 February 2015:                       Deadline for submission of proposals
  • SUNDAY 15 MARCH:                                NEW DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS
  • May 2015:                                             Notification of participants by the Scientific Committee, Publication of the program, and opening of registration for the congress
  • Tuesday, 30 June 2015:                           End of registration for presenters
  • Sunday, 04 September 2014:                    End of on-line registration for other participants
  • 9 –11 September 2015:                           Congress

 

 

Language: The panels will be conducted in French or in English.  

Public: The Congress is open to all (researchers, professors, doctoral candidates, students, experts, and other individuals interested in Asia and the Pacific) upon registration.

Publication: The Congress does not plan to publish the proceedings. However, the Scientific Committee wishes to encourage the publication of journal special issues. Journal editors will be invited to the Congress.

Registration fees: 80 € for presenters, 30 € for student presenters; 30 € for other non-presenting participants, fees waived for students.

Presenters will be invited to a reception on the evening of 10 September at 7:15 (free of charge).

For lunches, options will be available at the venue (at the expense of the participants).

Scientific Committee: it includes the members of the scientific council of GIS Asie, members of the scientific committee from the previous Congress, as well as the directors of the GIS Asie: see the members list.
